“Tatreez” embroidery is traditionally passed down from grandmothers to their daughters and granddaughters. It’s a symbol of Palestinian identity that unites women across generations, and around the world. We’re working to preserve this centuries-old art form by inviting Palestinians around the world to submit motifs from their family heirlooms and document the stories behind the tradition.
The Tatreez Archive is a product of Darzah, a non-profit, ethical fashion brand specializing in Palestinian “tatreez” embroidery. Each of our pieces is hand-embroidered and 100% handcrafted in the West Bank. Our mission is twofold: 1) to create economic opportunities for refugee and low-income women artisans, and 2) to celebrate tatreez embroidery and Palestinian cultural heritage.
